Nude Woman Asleep by William Etty

William Etty (York 10 March 1787 - 13 November 1849) was an English painter. In the Modern Art History he is known as a Neo-Classical artist. He studied painting in the Royal Academy School, in London, under Henry Fuseli. He also studied privately for a year under Sir Thomas Lawrence.

His later paintings were under influence of the Venetian masters. He studied the Venetian masters in Venice, in 1822. Etty‘s hotly-coloured brush work is a clear reflection of colour excellence of the Venetian masters. In the English Art History he was depicted as England‘s only painter of unapologetic, full- blooded nudes.
